Fast food is typically high in calories, but does not have much nutrition, therefor you will become hungry more often. For example, if you ate 1000 calories from eating fast food burgers, fries, and soda; your body will recognize these calories as, "Fat or empty". The body will attempt to get rid of most all Fat calories, therefor the body will become hungry again for the loss energy it just acquired.

The most popular reasons are, one of course the obsession with food, and two being stressed or depressed. If you are having this problem almost every night, then you have NES. NES stands for Night Eating Syndrome and millions of people have it, so don't feel bad. Although this can be very critical on your weight, NES not only makes you gain calories but allows you to not have enough of amount of sleep at night. Make sure you don't eat fruits late at night, even those fruits are low on calories you will most likely have a natural sugar rush. Other reasons are food is available to them. For example, your friend brings over some peanut butter cookies, peanut butter isn't your favorite type of cookie but 9/10 chance you'll still eat at least one. Another reason is it's a habit. After a period of time you get use to what your eating and just continue that direction. If you have enough motivation you can easily break that habit, as easily as you started. Your location can also limit your food choices, such as being at a football game and all they have are unhealthy hot dogs or funnel cakes.
